At the Darts World Cup 2025, Luke Littler voted up to the youngest world champion in history. It was the preliminary highlight of the young career of the 18-year-old, whose trophy cabinet is already filled. No wonder that you trust Littler to target the records of the legendary Phil Taylor. However, the high -flyer sees hurdles on the way there.
In his debut at the PDC World Darts Championship, Luke Littler only sensationally failed in the final in 2024, a year later the title win was no longer a surprise.
Littler is currently the measure of things on the tour, but the path is still a further way to the success of Darts icon Phil Taylor.
The 64-year-old, who ended his career in 2018, won a total of 16 World Cup titles (2 at BDO, 14 at the PDC) in his career. Littler is still trusted to advance to these spheres. However, this will not be easy.
“There is a record that can be broken, but it will take some time,” said Littler recently as part of the “Sky Bet” Talks “Stick to Football” with the former football greats Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Jill Scott.
In addition, Taylor did not “only” won the World Cup, but also the “World Matchplay 16 times, so he won two of the big majors 16 times – it will take some time” to get close to these records. In addition, according to Littler, the competition is completely different these days.
Money as a drive spring for long darts career
There used to be Taylor or the five -time BDO champ Eric Bristow – “it was still a good field, but I think Phil would have a hard time nowadays,” said Littler.
Nevertheless, the youngster believes that he can exceed his “idol” Taylor: “He was 52 when he won his 16th world championship title. If I can get up to stay in darts for so long, I might break his record” and confidently: “If I want, then I will do it.”
Littler also admits completely bluntly what the drive could be for a similarly long career: “Probably only the money to be honest.”
There is a lot more to earn today than it was primarily at Taylor’s early days. The world champion in 2026 will be a million prize money for the first time.
