The qualification for the Grand Prix of Bahrain does not run as desired for the four -time world champion. A duo dominates for a long time.
Oscar Piatri starts at the Grand Prix of Bahrain from first place. In qualifying on Saturday, the McLaren pilot secured the pole position for the race on Sunday (from 5 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) and thus also broadcast a sign to world champion Max Verstappen-on the contrary experienced a messed up qualification. The Dutchman (Red Bull), who was able to win his first win of the season on the last race weekend, complained several times about problems and ended up in seventh place – disappointing for Verstappen and the Austrian racing team.
It is already the second pole for the Australian in the still young season. Second was George Russell (Mercedes) ahead of Charles Leclerc (Ferrari). Russell’s young teammate Kimi Antonelli also caused a sensation. The 18-year-old starts four on Sunday. After it looked for a long time as if the McLaren would make up the starting places one and two among themselves, Piatris teammate Lando Norris surprisingly only finished sixth.
The Emmerich Nico Hülkenberg meanwhile beat his clean teammate Gabriel Bortoleto. In contrast to the young Brazilian (18th), the 37-year-old made it in Q2, but his time for 13th place was canceled. Hülkenberg therefore goes from 16th place to the Grand Prix on Sunday. In training before, he still had to park his car early because of a problem.
In the second section of the hunting of time, Haas driver Esteban Ocon (14th) caused a red flag with a departure. The Frenchman immediately sparked that he was “okay” and apologized to the team, but his car was quite destroyed at the rear. It was a day for the US racing team to forget, Oliver Bearman became the last.
