Mats Hummels chose a career end. Now there could be another turn for a limited period of time.
It is still unclear how things go for Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels after the end of the career. However, DFB sports director Rudi Völler can well imagine that the two ex-international will be preserved for football-in a different function.
In conversation with “kicker”, Völler emphasized that both Müller and Hummels had the necessary suitability in order to be working as a functional at the DFB or a club in the future. “You have undoubtedly the quality, the intellect and the expertise to work at the association or a club at some point,” said the 63-year-old.
Until it is time, Mats Hummels could apparently lace up the soccer shoes again. As the “Bild” newspaper reports, the BVB management days are undergoing Hummels as a standby professional for the club World Cup (June 14th to July 13th) in the United States. The 2014 world champion is officially under contract with AS Rome until the end of June, but could change the extra transfer window (1 to June 1st to June 1st) by the UEFA.
According to the report, a two-month contract seems to be imaginable. At BVB, defense boss Nico Schlotterbeck fails for six months, and replacements Niklas Süle and Waldemar Anton are not in top form.
Niko Kovač has not denied the rumors about a return from Mats Hummels to Borussia Dortmund. “I personally hear about it too,” said the trainer before the game at Bayern Munich (Saturday, 6.30 p.m. in the T-Online Live ticker): “Mats is certainly an extraordinary footballer who has achieved a lot and has a huge importance for BVB.”
Mats Hummels announced his end of his career last Friday. FC Bayern announced on Monday that Thomas Müller’s contract will not be extended in summer. How it could go on is still unclear.
