A serval was seen near Emmen last night. The African feline has probably escaped.
“I came home to take care of the horses and then he suddenly stood there,” says Nadine Lammers. “The animal was tame. He walked right past me and was totally not impressed.”
When she went to look again later in the evening, the animal had disappeared. Lammers suspects that it is an escaped pet. She has reported to the animal ambulance, who referred the case to the police.
Since July 1, 2024, Servals can no longer be held as a pet. For people who already had a serval before that date, a transitional arrangement applies.
Last August an escaped Serval was walking around on the Golfbaan of Parc Sandur in Emmen. It was taken care of by the animal ambulance. A month later the owner reported and took the animal with him.
