Daniel Altmaier had no chance against tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz at Masters in Monte Carlo and left after two sets.
Tennis professional Daniel Altmaier missed the big surprise at the ATP Masters in Monte Carlo. The 26-year-old had to surrender to the Spanish world number third Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16. From the perspective of the last remaining German player, 3: 6, 1: 6 was said in the tournament after 1:27 hours.
Alcaraz a number too big
Wimbledon winner Alcaraz, who only starts in Monte Carlo for the second time, meets the Frenchman Arthur Fils on Friday – and is the most prominent remaining name in the quarter -finals of the 1000 tournament. Altmaier, who had hit the French Oldie Richard Gasquet (38) in three sets on Wednesday after a strong performance, also went well against Alcaraz.
In a long service game of the Spaniard, he developed several break opportunities – but Alcaraz fought off, including an incredible rallies that delighted the audience on Court Rainier III.
Altmaier still climbs in the world rankings
Alcaraz, most recently in search of Constance, also seemed vulnerable afterwards, but still secured the first sentence because Altmaier did not use his chances. In the second round, the favorite then showed its whole class – and demonstratively clapped the fist after the transformed second match ball.
With the round of 16, Altmaier still improves in the world rankings and will soon be led to 68th place – and therefore as high as it has been in almost exactly one year. Most recently, he was better placed in the penultimate April week of 2024 with 66.
