FC Hansa Rostock can continue to dream of promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The Mecklenburger won the Nord duel at VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday evening thanks to a goal by Sigurd Haugen 1-0 (1-0). For the Lower Saxony it was a setback in the fight for relegation.
Hansa Rostock ended his away crisis on the Bremen bridge. After three defeats in a row in foreign places, the Mecklenburgers have been three again since February 1 (2-0 at Borussia Dortmund II). And that helps enormously to ensure that the team of coach Daniel Brinkmann can continue to hope for promotion to the second division. The gap to the relegation rank is seven points, and the Rostockers also have the catch -up game in Unterhaching in the hindquarters.
“We defended over 90 minutes.”
-Hansa coach Daniel Brinkmann
“Everything was asked – and we implemented that well today. I am very satisfied with the away performance,” said Brinkmann in an interview with the NDR. “We have defended over 90 minutes. And the gate is just as important. It arises from a switching situation where Benno Dietze prevails excellently, drives the ball well, then plays the passport at the right moment, then Sigurd because of how he takes the ball inwards and has a good degree.”
For Osnabrück, on the other hand, the situation in the table after the home bankruptcy on the 32nd matchday remains precarious. The team of coach Marco Antwerp continues to have only two points ahead of the first relegation rank. “Especially in the first half, there was no need to make the mistakes from the opponent. “The opponent has a ball win in the second half and represents 0: 1, and we then run after the music all the time.”
VfL and Hansa each with two chances in half one
After an eventless first quarter of an hour, it was the purple whites that made the first highlight of the game. VfL striker Braydon Manu narrowly missed the goal with a diagonal low shot from a half-left penalty position (17th). The Rostockers struggled to the Bremen bridge for a long time. After a nice preparatory work by the 21-year-old native Güstrower Benno Dietze, she was finally there, the first chance for the guests: top striker Haugen had. The Norwegian shot the ball into the arms of VfL goalkeeper Lukas Jonsson (26th).
Osnabrück’s Bryang Kayo (44th) and Haugen (45th) still had one opportunity – but overall the first round offered little entertainment. With the 0: 0, an extremely honest intermediate status, we went into the cabins.
Rostock’s Haugen meets stronger Dietze preparatory work
The level of the game rose rapidly shortly after the restart – thanks to Dietze. The large Rostock talent made it very strong in the 50th minute. First, the ball conquered the ball at the penalty area boundary of VfL captain Dave Gnaase, then switched it over and pulled it open and finally, and finally he played the ball perfectly into the barrel of Haugen, who put the FCH into the lead from a half-right penalty area position with a shot. For the native of Haugesund, it was Saisontor number nine.
The purple whites now had to do more aggressively, and the will was undoubtedly recognizable. But none of the commitment was not enough to radiate real goal. In the 69th minute, Brinkmann took out his scorer duo for the guests, he brought Sima Suso and Christian Kinsombi for Dietze and Haugen.
In the period that followed, the hosts did not come through the well -staggered defensive of the Rostockers during their offensive efforts. In the second minute of added time, Niklas Wiemann failed with a shot to Hansa keeper Benjamin Uphoff. More did not come from VfL.
