The municipality of Midden-Drenthe wants to build 95 homes in Westerbork in the short term. There are two locations for this: in the village center and on the north side of the village.
The municipality has acquired pre -emptive rights for agricultural land north of Westerbork. That means that if the owner wants to sell the land, he must first offer it to the municipality. An exploration shows that the area north of Westerbork may be suitable for residential construction. It is now further investigating whether this is actually the case.
In addition to the new building on the edge of the village, the municipality is also working on small -scale housing in the center of the village. Both projects together must deliver 95 new homes, which according to aldermen Rieja Raven are desperately needed. “Both among young people and seniors in Westerbork, the demand for homes is high.”
Local residents can ask questions to the municipality on 17 April at a walk -in meeting in Westerbork.
