Organized resistance is slowly forming against President Donald Trump. While the Democratic Party had fallen into a kind of shock rigid for some time after its election victory in November 2024, there are now protest in the USA in many places. Ex-President Barack Obama called on to defy the government’s attempts to intimidate.
The “Fighting Oligarchy” campaign by Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also called AOC, moves through the country as a tour. Now music prominence is increasing to the protest stage for the first time.
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, two big legends will climb into the ring in the Gloria Molina Grand Park in Los Angeles with Neil Young and Joan Baez, whose commitment goes back to the era of the anti-Vietnam War demos.
“Snout full”
The generation after next is represented with Maggie Rogers, who represented Indie-Barde Jeff Rosenstock, the singer/songwriter Indigo de Souza and the Red Pears. The local Raise Gospel Choir is also at the start in the tradition of “Black Consciousness”.
“It was only too easy to feel powerless and left alone since the election. Now we see how many people also have the snout full of this crap and participation in these events. This fills my heart again with hope,” wrote punk guitarist Rosenstock on social media. “I am definitely honored to be part of it and play a few songs. Come early and look at how my best do, Lol”
Political hauden and Vermont Senator Saunders (83) announces on his website that the aim of the tour would be the establishment of a movement “like us against oligarchs and the group interests that have so much power and influence in this country”.
So far, “Fighting Oligarchy” has been able to count on rock or pop support. The Armed, Laura Jane Grace or Tim Kinsellas Band the Pulse are not just effective stadium acts. The indie electror rockers from Poliça, in turn, were there at the tour stop in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
It remains to be seen to what extent these pop polite protests also have an effect outside of the left-liberal circles. In the run -up to the presidential election, many famous pop stars voted against Trump. The result is known.
After the rally in Los Angeles, Saunders and AOC continue their hope tour in Las Vegas, Tempe, Denver and Tucson.
