Girondin’s Bordeaux once won six championship titles in France. The traditional club is currently far away. Andy Carroll wants to help back to the top.
He was once one of the most expensive English players in Premier League history, now he earns less than a minimum wage recipient: Andy Carroll has accepted a drastic salary cut for his new Bordeaux club.
The former English international only receives a monthly salary of 1,614 euros gross from the fourth division club Girondin’s Bordeaux, according to a report by the French sports newspaper “L’équipe” – after taxes, he remains less than 1,400 euros. The statutory minimum wage in France is currently 1,801.80 euros gross for a 35-hour week. Carroll is thus officially managed as a part -time force.
The club’s financial situation leaves little scope: Bordeaux was forced to the fourth league last year after the former French champion had to register bankruptcy.
Carroll, formerly in action for Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham, earned completely different salaries for Premier League times. In his time at Liverpool FC, he is said to have received around £ 80,000 a week, which would currently be the equivalent of 94,000 euros – an annual salary of almost five million euros.
The now 36-year-old has scored eight goals in the current season. Seven games are still pending. If he reaches ten goal participations – goals or templates – a bonus payment of 2,000 euros.
In an interview with “L’équipe”, Carroll explained that financial aspects had not played a role in moving to Bordeaux. He said: He rented a nice little house, but his salary is under the rent. If he chose Bordeaux, then “obviously not because of the money”.
