Bull riding is a popular event in the USA. But it is also dangerous.
At a rodeo event in the US city of Wharton (Texas), the 24-year-old Rodeo-Champion Dylan Grant had a fatal accident. The accident occurred on April 3 during the Xtreme Bulls event.
As the US Rodeo Association PrCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) announced, Grant fell from the bull in the second round and suffered serious injuries. First he was treated on site by paramedics and brought to Houston with a rescue helicopter to the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. There he succumbed to his injuries.
Grant came from Laramie in the US state of Wyoming. According to the PRCA, he regularly took part in Prorodeo and Xtreme Bulls competitions. This season he won $ 3,760 (around 3,430 euros) in prize money, a total of $ 15,710 (around 14,330 euros).
The University of Wyomings, where Grant graduated from 2023, was shaken by the news. On Instagram, the university’s rodeo team wrote that one was “destroyed”. The thoughts are with his parents, Wade and Tiffany. “Dylan was a champion – in life and in the arena,” it said in the post.
Many expressions of condolences also came from the professional bullriding scene. Sean Gleason, Managing Director of Professional Bull Riders Inc., recalled on Instagram of Grant as talented athletes with a “big heart”. Grant not only impressed as a rodeo champion, but also with his humanity.
