Ice hockey superstar cracks all-time record

Wayne Gretzky’s Torrecord in NHL was considered unreachable for a long time. But he fell this Sunday.
Alexander Owetschkin broke the most important torrect in ice hockey. In the away game of his Washington Capitals at the New York Islanders, the 39-year-old scored his 895th goal in the North American NHL on Sunday-and left Wayne Gretzky behind.
After the goal for the meantime 1: 2, he cheered on his stomach over the ice. The game was interrupted, a blue carpet was rolled out on the ice-numerous well-wishers, including teammates, coaches and official, congratulated the new NHL record goal scorer.
Gretzky pursued the game from the stands. The 64-year-old applauded and was witnessed how his record that fell for his decades fell. On social networks, all NHL teams congratulated with short video opportunities.
Owetschkin said about the indoor microphone: “I always said it: It is a team sport. Without my boys, without the organization, without the fans, without the coaches I would never be here and could never have overtaken The Great One.” The attacker also thanked his family. In the UBS Arena, loud “Owi, Owi” calls were heard.
Just two days earlier, Owetschkin had equated with a double pack against the Chicago Blackhawks with Gretzky. The decisive goal was now followed against the Islanders – his 42nd this season.
Gretzky needed 1,487 games for his 894 NHL goals-exactly as many missions as Owetschkin for his 895 goals. In the overall ranking according to points, however, Gretzky remains undisputed: the Canadian comes to 2,857 points, Owetschkin is 1,617.
