The 1. FC Köln continues to hope for the return to the Bundesliga. But against Hertha BSC the previous league leader had to accept a damper.
Fabian Reese once again decided a game in favor of Hertha BSC. The Starstürmer of the Berliner scored the only goal in the second division top game at the 1st FC Köln and took the third victory in a row for his Hertha. With a remarkable shot shortly after the break, he hit the Cologne case. For the first time since the 2019/2020 season, the Berliners won three league games in a row.
For 1. FC Köln, the bankruptcy against the Hertha also has consequences for the table. Because the top has now finally taken over the Hamburger SV, which had won 3-0 in Nuremberg.
The guests got better into the game and had to take the lead through Marten Winkler, but the 22-year-old went over the ball a few meters in front of the goal (17th).
Cologne subsequently defended himself, captain Eric Martel shot flat on the left (27th). Ibrahim Maza failed on the opposite side to FC keeper Marvin Schwäbe, who steered the ball to the post (45.).
It was not a minute after the change of sides, when Reese pulled from the right inwards and hit the far corner irresistibly with left. The Rhinelander subsequently fought against the defeat, Luca Waldschmidt (55th) and Tim Lemperle (64th) missed the equalization. Swabia prevented the decision against Winkler (78.).
