Almost all victims (94 percent) on escalators are injured by a fall. The victim is trapped in a few percent of the cases. Nevertheless, spokesperson Marjon Oosting of the Lift Institute doubts whether that percentage is not higher. “Unfortunately, we regularly see cases of crush on escalators,” she emphasizes. “Also among children.”
Three out of ten escalators (30 percent) end up in the hospital due to a bone fracture, but almost as many victims (28 percent) suffer brain injury.
Victim Hoofddorp
It is not known what injuries yesterday in Hoofddorp’s victim in Hoofddorp has not been known. A spokesperson for the Security Region only wanted to say that the child had been trapped with one hand between the escalator.
