From Australia to Great Britain to Berlin: In the life and work of Nick Cave, one of places played a formative role. At this point we want to take a closer look at five of these locations.
Melbourne
Under the name The Boys Next Door, the later Birthday Party recorded the album Door, Door, a postpunkt-bluest record with a destructive garage sound. By far the best piece of Shivers comes from guitarist Rowland S. Howard.
LONDON
In order to conquer a larger market, the Australians are moving to London, call the band in the Birthday Party – title of the second album of the Boys Next Door, which appears again under the new band name. In Australia and London, Junkyard creates a third, excessive Birthday party album: not only their best record, but also a harbinger of what follows.

BERLIN
London also proves to be a dead end, The Birthday Party separate, a large part of the staff moves to Berlin. This is where the big Bad-Seeds works of the first phase, dark manifeste, packed with gigantic songs: Tupelo on The Firstborn Is Dead (1985), The Carny on Your Funeral … My Trial (1986), The Mercy Seat on Tender Prey.
Sao Paulo
Because of love, but also to get his heroin addiction under control, Nick Cave moves to Sao Paulo. The indulgent foi na cruz, first piece on the album The Good Son (1990), specifies a new mild mood. The fantastic plate contains some of the largest cave songs, including the Evergreen The Ship Song.
LONDON
In 1993 Cave and his Brazilian wife Viviane Carneiro return to London with his son, shortly afterwards there is a separation. The gripping albums Henry’s Dream (1992) and Let Love in (1994) are created.
In 1996 Nick Cave succeeds in a real hit: The murderous ballad where the Wild Roses Grow with Kylie Minogue runs up and down on MTV, the associated album Murder Ballads (1996) offers morbid replenishment, becomes its most successful record.
With The Boatman’s Call (1997) he sings about the end of his affair with PJ Harvey and death, Cave proves to be a big singer/songwriter.
Brighton
With his wife Susie Bick, he moves to the south coast of England to Brighton, followed by a phase in the early nation, in which he loses relevance: the fans remain loyal to him, he finds new listeners little, Nick Cave is suddenly considered uncool in indie circles.
The lush double album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus offers the best fan service, the full beard phase with the Grinderman project and the Bad-Seeds-Album Dig, Lazarus, Dig !!! If the core group delights, Cave continues to lead to the sidelines.

That changes suddenly with Push the Sky Away (2013): A new generation is aware of Nick Cave, supported by the British series Peaky Blinders. The title piece of the Opus about a gangster dynasty in Birmingham at the time of industrialization is Caves Signature song Red Right Hand. The loyalty of the old fans and the many new ones mean that Nick Cave becomes the world star with Ü60 from the scene icon.
