Skonnd is demolished, in the Naom of Veurut. With these words the chorus of the song ‘Schoonoord is being demolished’, which was released this week. The song, an initiative of producer Roel Kuipers and musician Bert Koops from Schoonoord, has been specially written to support the inhabitants of the village.
For months, many cleaners have been awake from the plans to rare at 69 social rental properties in North and South Schoonoord. Only part of that number will return in the form of owner-occupied and rental homes. What that means in concrete terms for the residents remains unclear for the time being.
Woonservice has offered the residents a return guarantee, but it is not clear whether they can definitively return to their own street. The housing corporation has indicated that it will discuss this with residents.
For producer Roel Kuipers and musician Bert Koops, known for Mooi Wark, was patiently not an option. The musicians from Schoonoord decided to take matters into their own hands and in their own unique way to speak to residents with a song. Together with a number of musicians from Soundstudio de Koos, they went into the Kuipers studio. Production was finished within a week.
