The number of road inspectors at Rijkswaterstaat is going up considerably. In total, the capacity is structurally expanded by 38FTE, an increase of more than ten percent. At the moment there are around 300 road inspectors. Expansion is necessary to cope with the growing number of incidents. On the main road network, the increased bustle on the road increases the number of bad luck and accidents year after year. Road inspectors ensure the security and smooth handling of these incidents.

Minister Madlener: “Incidents on the road are not only annoying for the directors involved, but also lead to a delay for fellow road users. And that while we just want to continue with all of them. Road inspectors at Rijkswaterstaat are therefore working hard to solve these kinds of situations, so that everyone can continue as quickly as possible. This expansion is an important step in improving the traffic on our ways.”

In an accident, Rijkswaterstaat is responsible for safety and flow on the Dutch motorways. Road inspectors ensure that the other emergency services can also do their work quickly and safely and the vehicles involved are quickly removed. The traffic and the number of so -called incident reports has increased considerably in recent years. Prognoses of the Knowledge Institute for Mobility Policy (KIM) show that this trend will continue in the coming years. The increase is partly the result of the increasing number of motorists and number of breakdowns. Autobilists are also derived more often, resulting in incidents.
