Two Dutch experts will participate in international emergency aid teams for Myanmar in the coming weeks. The disaster specialists are part of a European team that will support assistance from neighboring Thailand. Minister Reinette Klever for foreign trade and development aid announced this on Wednesday.
This is an information management expert and a specialist in the field of Logistics. As part of a seven-member team, they will help Coordinate the help of EU member states for Myanmar and ensure that this help fits in well with international assistance by the UN. The emphasis is mainly on gaining insight into access to affected areas and on organizing logistics and transport. The team works from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and starts this week.
The Netherlands has a pool of disaster specialists with different expertise. These can be used in the Netherlands and can also be nominated for UN and EU requests for international disaster teams. The EU and the UN pay their commitment.
The UN, the International Red Cross and Dutch aid organizations that work together in the Dutch Relief Alliance currently grant financing from the Netherlands emergency aid in Myanmar thanks to multi -year and flexible financing. “These organizations therefore receive these financial resources in advance, so that they can quickly act and provide assistance in Emergency situations such as now in Myanmar,” says Minister Klever. The Dutch Relief Alliance was able to free up 3 million euros to help victims of the earthquake with food, water and shelter.
