Marcel Rapp will remain coach of Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel – no matter how the season ends. The “storks” announced the contract extension with the 45-year-old on Tuesday. Kiel is currently the bottom of the table.

The head coach’s contract would not have expired until the summer of 2026 anyway, now it was extended early for two more years.

“We are completely convinced that he is the right coach for the KSV and will lead the club through a quiet lake, but will also lead through stormy times and continue to proceed with a clear plan,” said Managing Director Carsten Wehlmann: “Marcel Rapp has been working very successfully at Holstein Kiel for three and a half years. life.”

Rapp, who comes from Pforzheim in Baden, has been the Schleswig -Holsteiner coach since the beginning of October 2021 – and led the club to the Bundesliga for the first time in its history last year. From the start, it was clear to everyone involved that it would only be about relegation. Seven game days before the end of the season, KSV has five points behind the relegation place. The stormy times described are currently more.

Rapp wants to “use whole energy”

“We are currently on an exciting and challenging journey that is far from over,” said Rapp in his contract extension. “I would like to help shape the further path of the club together with my great team in the future and use all my energy for this.”

Rapp’s assistant coaches will also be part of it. Dirk Bremser and Alexander Hahn also extended their working papers in Kiel by two more years until 2028.

Does the decision bring a thrust in the fight for the class?

Kiel is Rapp’s first stop as head coach in professional football. Wehlmann described the three and a half years that Rapp is now working at Holstein Kiel as “very successful”. The sign of continuity should bring an additional thrust in the end of the season.

Most recently, the KSV did not win three times in a row. Especially the 0: 3 against Werder Bremen hurt last weekend. It continues on Saturday (3:30 p.m./in the NDR LiveCenter) at the 1st FSV Mainz 05. On April 12, the “storks” with FC St. Pauli will receive a direct competitor in the fight for relegation.
