Superstar Tadej Pogacar will start for the first time in his career at the Paris-Roubaix classic in a few days. A decision that many welcome, but quite a few also question. Ex-professional Alberto Contador counts the people who warn the Slovenes at least of the race.
The legendary classic cycling Paris-Roubaix will take place this year with Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian and currently the best driver in the world wants to prove himself in the “hell of the north” and show that he is also a class of its own on the dreaded cobblestones.
Ex-professional Alberto Contador is looking forward to seeing the 26-year-old at the most important one-day race of the season. At the same time, the Spaniard sees hardly any calculable risks to pogacar.
Contador warns Pogacar: fall on cobblestones is different
“It is a good time for him to start at a race that is a huge challenge,” said Contador in the “Eurosport” interview. He believes that the Slovenian has deliberately decided to start this year “because it is in top form”.
“But,” the Spaniard warned the dominator, “there is a significant risk of falling. And a fall on cobblestones is completely different from one on a straight asphalt”. Other experts already warned of that risk. Above all, because a serious fall and a possible injury could endanger the exceptional tour of the Tour de France plans.
It is also unclear whether the Slovenian can play its qualities on this extraordinary course in France’s north. At least, Contador believes that drivers like Mathieu van der Poel or Wout van Aert are better agreed and “stronger on the cobblestones”.
Nevertheless, he would not rule out Pogacar as the winner. He will certainly be among the favorites, “said the former cycling professional.
