Radprofi Fabio Jakobsen is used to falls and serious injuries. Now the tourist winner has to suspend because of another problem.
Radprofi Fabio Jakobsen will get out of the racing for an indefinite period. According to his team Picnic-Postnl, the former tour stage winner and European champion complains about persistent complaints that now make an operation necessary.
As the racing team announced, the blood circulation in Jakobsen’s pelvic arteries is limited – a burden that has been troubled by the Dutch for a long time.
Team doctor Camiel Aldershof said: “The operation means that Fabio will initially not sit on the bike for about six weeks and that no other strenuous physical activities are allowed to do.” If the intervention on Wednesday without complications, Jakobsen can probably gradually return to training after around two months.
Jakobsen has already gained bitter experiences with forced breaks. During the Tour of Poland in August 2020, he fell with about 80 kilometers per hour and suffered serious injuries. The sprinter had to be sewn with 130 stitches on the face and contracted several broken bones.
In April 2021 he celebrated his comeback, won the second stage of the Tour de France in Nyborg in Danish a year later and then won the title in the street race at the European Championship in Munich.
