FC Schalke 04 led, still looked like the loser in a lively game of the 2nd Bundesliga at SpVgg Greuther Fürth. In the final phase, the royal blue saved one point at 3: 3 (1: 2).
In the duel between two midfield teams, Kenan Karaman Schalke took the lead (9th minute), but Roberto Massimo (11th), Jomaine Consbruch (26th) and Dennis Srbeny (54.) turned the game for the hosts. Amin Younes shortened (85th), Moussa Sylla scored to equalize (90.+5). Schalke’s keeper Loris Karius had to get off the field shortly before the half -time whistle.
“Mixed feelings“Schalke trainer Kees van Wonderen made out after the final whistle.”We have seen our defensive instability again. Every ball is a dangerous ball with us“, Van Wonderen struggled in the sports show, especially with the defensive performance. But:”Fighting back after a 1: 3 is of course positive.“
Even with Fürth’s coach Jan Siewert, after the two goals conceded in the final phase and the missed home victory, there was an pros and cons. “The result hurts on the last moment“, said Siewert on the Sportschau microphone,”But the performance was very, very good over many, many parts.“
Duel in no man’s land – but for TV money
With 33 points each, both clubs ranked before the kick -off in the safe midfield of the second division table – “no man’s land” is happy to say. So how do the portion of extra motivation find for such a game in which both can hardly be about core topics such as climbing or descent?
“Couple places for the TV income table” was therefore said in advance from both camps. Perhaps it was this lack of stress that led from the kick -off to a lively game that was very entertaining for the spectators at the Ronhof.
Schalke and Fürth meet within almost two minutes
The first goal fell early in the 9th minute. And it was a gruesome Fürther defensive error that made the Schalke lead possible: Roberto Massimo played an excessive back pass in the direction of his keeper. Kenan Karaman sprinted in between and hit the orphaned Fürther Tor to 0: 1.
Schalke was in front – but not long: In return, Jomaine Consbruch flanked from the half field to the left side, where the previously incorrect massimo had run. By flying ball, he only transformed a good minute after Schalke’s lead goal to 1: 1 (10th).
Fürth follows and takes the lead
There was something going on in the game – and that stayed that way. In the 25th minute, the impartial Max Bauer pointed to the point in the Schalke penalty area. Fürth’s Simon Asta had been brought down by Paul Seguin in the Schalke penalty area – at least that’s how it saw the referee. Seguin had actually not touched his opponent, but there was no correction. Dennis Srbeny initially failed with the penalty to Karius, but in the replacement Consbruch pressed the ball over the line – 2: 1, Fürth had turned the game.
Schalke’s defense remained holey. The defenders had problems in particular with long balls – in the added time of the first half, such a long ball was the cause of Loris Karius. The Schalke keeper had to get out of his box and collided with Fürth’s Felix Klaus when he was attempted to rescue. Karius injured his left ankle and had to be replaced by Justin Heekeren.
Fürth’s Srbeny makes a mistake again
With a new keeper in the box, Schalke quickly had to cope with the next deep blow in the second section: In the 54th minute, Srbeny, previously failed from the penalty point, scored a wonderful goal to 3: 1. Fought the ball in midfield, he started forward and suddenly stood alone in front of the Schalke Tor after a double pass with Klaus. He balanced the ball to the decisive 3: 1.
Schalke comes back
Schalke struggled again for the connection, but remained extremely open at the back. In the 76th minute, Klaus should have hit the 4: 1, but the ball pushed past the gate from eleven meters. On the other hand, substitute Amin Younes shortened in the final phase to 2: 3 (85th), and Schalke was suddenly in the game again. And actually came to equalize in the last minute of stoppage time. Moussa Sylla hit 3: 3 in the 95th minute.
