Porsche has unveiled the 911 GT3 Rs series 992, the top model of the aspirated range most celebrated by the brand’s purists. The performance bar rises thanks to the evolution of the naturally aspirated 4-liter 6-cylinder boxer, which reaches the apex of 525 hp, in addition to aerodynamic and mechanical solutions inherited directly from the GT3 R engaged in racing. The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS can already be ordered with a price starting from 239,435 euros.

engine, gearbox and trim

The 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine has been further optimized compared to the 911 GT3. The increase in power to 386 kW – 525 hp was achieved mainly thanks to new camshafts with modified profiles. It is combined exclusively with the seven-speed PDK double clutch transmission, shorter than the 911 GT3. Compared to the 318 km / h of the past, the top speed drops to 296 km / h, while the 0-100 km / h sprint in 3.2 seconds improves by two tenths. On the front axle, with 275/35 R 20 tires, monobloc fixed-caliper aluminum brakes with six pistons each and brake discs with a diameter of 408 mm are used. The rear axle, with 335/30 R21 tires, continues to be equipped with 380 mm discs and four-piston fixed caliper brakes. The carbon ceramic braking system is available as an option.

porsche gt3 rs: racing aerodynamics

In comparison with the 911 GT3, the RS gains 15 Hp and 15 only 15 kg more weight (1,450 kg total), in the face of the numerous increased mechanical components. Of the many links between the 911 GT3 Rs and its racing counterpart, the biggest one is the new cooling system. Instead of the three-radiator configuration already used in previous cars, the new 911 GT3 RS relies on a large central radiator, mounted at an angle in the front where the trunk is located in other 911 models. The space left free on the sides was used to integrate active aerodynamic elements, also present on the front wing. With the complicity of the two-section rear section, they guarantee 409 kg of overall downforce at 200 km / h. In practice, the new 911 GT3 RS develops twice as much downforce as the 991.2 generation and three times that of a current 911 GT3. At 285 km / h, the total downforce is 860 kg. It is the first time that a drag reduction system (DRS) has been fitted to a production Porsche. It allows the adjustment of the wings at the touch of a button, for example to ensure low drag and higher speeds on straight sections of the track. The aerodynamic brake function is activated during emergency braking at high speed: the front and rear moving elements are adjusted to the maximum, creating an aerodynamic deceleration effect that contributes significantly to braking.

packages and fittings

The interior re-launches the typical RS style that includes black leather, Racetex fabrics and carbon weave finishes. The 911 GT3 RS is available with the package Clubsport at no additional cost. Includes a steel stabilizer bar, portable fire extinguisher and six-point seat belts for the driver. The package Weissach, which instead provides for a surcharge, boasts a higher endowment. The front hood, roof, parts of the rear wing and the mirror caps feature a textured finish carbon-look. The front and rear anti-roll bars, rear coupling rods and the cutting panel on the rear axle are made of carbon fiber and help to further improve driving dynamics. The stabilizer bar, made for the first time in carbon fiber, weighs around six kilograms less than the steel version. On request, with the package Weissach forged magnesium rims are available, resulting in a further saving of eight kilograms.
