96 ice cold in the first half: ripped off Hanover beats Fortuna thanks to Zieler

Status: 08.11.2022 21:22

In the 2nd Bundesliga, Hannover 96 beat Fortuna Düsseldorf in the promotion race. Decisive on this evening: the exploitation of chances and a brilliant Ron-Robert Zieler.

Because on Tuesday evening (November 8th, 2022), Fortuna Düsseldorf worked hard on the ex-German national goalkeeper, especially in the second half, but couldn’t get through. Hannover, on the other hand, made more of fewer opportunities in a 2-0 (2-0) win: Havard Nielsen (34th) and Cedric Teuchert (43rd) took their chances ice-cold.

Due to the success, Hannover moved up to fourth place and now has 27 points on the account. Fortuna Düsseldorf falls behind H96 in sixth place (26 points).

Engaged Fortuna caught cold by Hannover throw-in

The start of the game was rather uneventful. Fortuna certainly had a little more of the game and acted more powerfully than the Hanoverians, especially in the early minutes. Daniel Thioune’s team didn’t get too creative until Felix Klaus missed the first two good chances of the game (21′, 30′).

The 96ers also acted a bit helplessly at first in a game that seemed to level off somewhere between the two lines of defence. But the first Hanoverian chance shocked Düsseldorf. The Fortunes slept on a throw-in from Jannik Dehm, who found Nielsen at the near post. The ball hit, and Hannover’s Christoph Klarer unhappily blocked goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier’s view.

Hannover 96 initially exhilarated by leadership

And Hannover was more lively after the opening goal and suddenly had field advantages. Nielsen shot another shot over the crossbar from close range (41′).

Shortly thereafter, Teuchert did better and made it 2-0 before the half-time whistle after a bad pass from Klarer and a spotless counterattack. Fabian Kunze had sent Hendrik Weydandt on a journey worth seeing, Teuchert only had to push in the cross pass. And Fortuna had to be annoyed to go into the dressing room after a decent first half hour against mercilessly efficient 96ers with two goals behind.

Fortuna launches attack after attack on target

After the restart and a few uneventful minutes, F95 coach Thioune reacted, bringing in fresh attackers for Rouwen Hennings and Dawid Kownacki in Emmanuel Iyoha and Kristoffer Peterson (64′). Hanover then had significant problems, Düsseldorf pressed.

Because Peterson and Iyoha made a lot of steam. In the end, Hannover 96 had to thank the brilliant goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler for the three points going to Lower Saxony.

Because Zieler parried several times, including a double chance from Peterson and Iyoha (68th). Despite his positive effect on the Fortuna game that evening, Iyoha in particular was unlucky in the end, first failing on the outside post (70th) and then again on Zieler (75th).
