Perry Sports

Fun fact: the cities in the Dutch version of Monopoly are based on Perry Sport stores. Perry’s then director developed this version and chose the places where the company had branches and warehouses. These were Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Groningen, Utrecht, Haarlem and Arnhem. ‘Our Village’ on the game board is fictional.

This sports store once had a branch in the Stadshart, but has been bankrupt for a while. Several Perry Sport locations were converted into Sprinter stores in 2023, a chain of the same parent company: Sports Unlimited Retail (SUR).

Shops closed

That did not last long, because SUR was declared bankrupt in December of that year. Perry Sport, Sprinter and fellow subsidiary Aktiesport still had fifty stores and more than a thousand employees at that time. The last Perry Sport branches did not close until March 2024.
