Nearly 81 percent of Flemish people believe that banks do far too little to compensate victims of phishing. This is evident from the large-scale survey ‘Vote of Flanders’, which paints a disturbing picture of the scale of the problem. “The cases have been increasing exponentially since the fall,” said Jean Cattaruzza, the financial services ombudsman. Why do victims almost always get the short end of the stick when their accounts are emptied? And what more can banks do to protect their customers?
