750 fans instead of ghost games – NRW clubs get spectators

The high number of infections has led to ghost games in most of the German stadiums. Now there is at least some support from the ranks for some Bundesliga clubs.

A uniform 750 spectators will be allowed in the North Rhine-Westphalian football stadiums from Thursday. This emerges from the amended NRW Corona Protection Ordinance, which was published on Tuesday. The new regulation will apply from January 13th “uniformly also for supraregional events”.

The federal and state governments had decided on ghost games out of concern about the Omikron virus variant, but some federal states had withdrawn, including Berlin, where up to 3,000 people are allowed to be in the stadiums. No fans were allowed in the NRW arenas at the start of the second half of the last weekend.

Borussia Dortmund (on Friday against Freiburg), 1. FC Köln (on Saturday against Bayern Munich), Borussia Mönchengladbach (on Saturday against Bayer Leverkusen) and Arminia Bielefeld (on Sunday against Greuther Fürth) can welcome at least a few supporters again.
