In the customs dispute with the European Union, US President Donald Trump currently sees the chances of an agreement with around 50 percent.
“I would say that we have a 50:50 chance, maybe even less, but a 50:50 chance to achieve a deal with the EU,” said the Republican to journalists before departure on a lasting stay in Scotland. Moments later pushed: “I think the EU has pretty good chances of reaching an agreement.”
On Wednesday (local time), Trump had given the prospect of reducing threatened tariffs to the import of European products – if the European Union opens its market more to the USA. Before that, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) indicated that an agreement could be made in the trade dispute.
Trump had just finished 15 percent with Japan – this is significantly less than originally planned. The United States has also been negotiating with the EU for weeks about a trade deal, which Trump should still prevent tariffs from 30 percent from August 1st. The deadline runs in a week.
