5: 1 after 0: 4: Sheffield makes a crazy comeback

Sheffield Wednesday has pulled off the biggest comeback in English football’s play-off history.

The Owls won the turbulent semi-final second leg for promotion to the Championship (2nd division) against Peterborough United 5-1 (2-0, 4-0) and ultimately settled 5-3 after the 0-4 defeat in the first leg through in a penalty shootout.

Up until that crazy Thursday night, no team had rallied more than two goals to reach the final.

In the final at Wembley on May 29, four-time English champions Sheffield will face Bolton Wanderers or Barnsley FC (first leg 1-1).

Scot Liam Palmer saved Wednesday with his last-minute goal (90+8) into overtime. There Lee Gregory scored an own goal (105′) before Callum Paterson scored again for the hosts (112′). Joker Jack Hunt used the decisive fifth penalty to reach the final.
