40 years of “Sweet Dreams”: Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart goes on tour

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the record, Dave Stewart is going on tour – but Annie Lennox is not there.

In 1983, British pop duo Eurythmics released the song “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)”. To this day – 40 years after its release – the track is an integral part of every party playlist. Creator Dave Stewart is going on tour for the 40th anniversary of the work and is also visiting three German cities.

As part of the “Eurythmics Songbook: Sweet Dreams – 40th Anniversary” show, the musician wants to unpack around 20 songs every evening. The show, which will be accompanied by a film created by Stewart, is intended to act as “a kind of retrospective” – he wants to “take every album into account”. “That’s how I put the show together – like, look, we’ve gone from here to there and then there and there. And I’m lucky that I can talk about a songbook and that people know the songs,” the guitarist and songwriter explains the concept.

However, Annie Lennox, the second part of the duo, will not be on stage when Stewart performs hits like “Love Is A Stranger” and “Here Comes The Rain Again”. “In the last 20 years, Annie and I have been offered pretty much every tour you can imagine, they almost gave us a knee, but Annie doesn’t want to go on tour,” the artist told the German Press Agency in London. “That’s why I called it ‘Eurythmics Songbook’, otherwise it would be the Eurythmics.”

Nevertheless, the songs do not have to do without a female voice. Stewart brings three singers with him on the tour bus – his daughter Kaya, soul singer RAHH and Australian pop musician Vanessa Amorosi. The musician is particularly proud of his collaboration with his offspring, whose godmother is Annie Lennox. “Kaya has been singing Eurythmics songs since she was three years old. She sat on Annie’s lap and sang ‘There Must Be an Angel’ and stuff like that,” Stewart says. The artist is also happy about the support of Amorosi, who released the hit “Absolutely Everybody” in 2000. She is an “incredible singer – a powerful, soulful singer with a touch of gospel,” said the Eurythmics star. RAHH, on the other hand, is also inspired by soul, “but in a gentler way”.

The musicians will play in Düsseldorf on November 15th, followed by another date in the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt on November 26th, and the Germany shows will conclude in Berlin the next day. Tickets are available here.
