3×3 World Cup: Basketball players miss the knockout round

The German basketball players missed the knockout stage at the 3×3 World Cup in Vienna. The German Basketball Federation (DBB) team lost 11:14 to France on Thursday evening. Denzel Agyeman, Linus Beikame, Niklas Geske and Bastian Landgraf had previously lost against defending champion Serbia by 14:21.

After a total of three defeats from four games, the DBB team took fifth and last place in Group A. Germany celebrated their only win on Tuesday against Madagascar (20:16). 3×3 head of discipline Matthias Weber complained that against Serbia “one or the other place didn’t believe enough”: “We lacked the determination. We sold ourselves a little short.”

At the World Cup, only the group winners qualify directly for the round of the top eight, while those in second and third place first have to play in the round of 16. In the previous year, both the men and the women of the DBB were eliminated in the first knockout round.
