Rot-Weiss Essen has parted ways with head coach Christoph Dabrowski as a result of a sustained negative run and the fall to 18th place in the 3rd league. The 46-year-old is leaving the club after 111 competitive games and with an average points average of 1.49 since he took over in the summer of 2022. Assistant coaches Lars Fleischer and Paul Freier will be in charge “until further notice”. Dabrowski’s departure is the “result of a detailed analysis of the club’s management,” as Rot-Weiss Essen said in a statement. At the weekend they lost 3-0 at home against TSV 1860 Munich.
Chairman of the board Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer explained: “From day one, Christoph lived and embodied the values that define the club, such as honesty, authenticity and ambition. However, we have now reached the point where we are inevitably forced to take action. We would like to thank him for his great commitment to RWE and wish him all the best in his future journey.”
Dabrowski extended his contract last February until June 2026 after initially leading the then promoted team to relegation and further stabilizing them. In 2023/24 there was a comfortable 7th place.
