Sign against racism
Both teams initially set an example against racism with special jerseys. The first duel was on December 19, 2021 due alleged racist slurs canceled against a VfL player. Investigations had not confirmed the allegation and the proceedings were discontinued.
In the brisk initial phase, Duisburg was able to keep up with the offensively strong guests. Stoppelkamp quickly equalized the early VfL lead after a pass from John Yeboah from close range.
Duisburg too shaky defensively
As a result, both teams looked for the way forward. However, as in previous games, the “Zebras” were defensively vulnerable – which Osnabrück took advantage of ice-cold.
The Lower Saxony attacked MSV again and again with quick attacks and pulled away up to 4:1 at the beginning of the second half. Only after that did the “zebras” catch themselves. Stoppelkamp hit the crossbar on a counterattack (56′). A little later, however, he managed to score the goal to make it 2:4 with a deflected side kick.
Bouhaddouz gives MSV hope
While Osnabrück lost the thread more and more, the hosts sensed the morning breeze and continued to play forward. Bouhaddouz even managed to make it 3:4 with a direct acceptance of an assist from Julian Hettwer. However, in a hard-fought final phase, Duisburg was unable to equalize and Osnabrück recovered.
After a counterattack, Kunze made everything clear for Osnabrück with the 5:3 and Higl ended a bitter evening for MSV with the 6:3 for VfL.
The fight against relegation continues for the “Zebras” on Sunday. From 2 p.m., Borussia Dortmund II, a neighbor and another team from the top half of the table, will be guests.
