It worked on the fourth attempt: Hallesche FC, who had no points so far, scored their first three of the season against promoted VfB Oldenburg. Halle were effective, kept a cool head and won 2-0.

HFC trainer André Meyer had to change after the 0:2 defeat in Freiburg and replace the red suspended Nietfeld and Kreuzer. Deniz and Bolyki initially sat on the bench, but Herzog, Fünger, Zimmerschied and Müller played from the start. Oldenburg’s coach Dario Fossi rotated five positions compared to the 2:3 against Elversberg and brought on Brand, Wegner, Krasniqi, Plautz and Starke for Herbst, Knystock, Schmidt, Bookjans and Ifeadigo.

Opportunities on both sides

The people of Halle didn’t stay long with the preface and went on the offensive. So Zimmerschied also had the first chance in the seventh minute, but missed free-standing. After a quarter of an hour it was Zimmerschied again, but he didn’t get any pressure behind the pill when falling and missed the box. Probably HFC’s best chance in the first half went to Gayret (19′), who forced VfB keeper Boevink to make a brilliant save with a free kick from 20 meters out.

The guests were slowly gaining momentum and created reasonable chances through the lively Wegner (24th/38th), which the VfB captain didn’t take advantage of. Without goals it went into the cabins.

HFC ice cold with brains

After the break, it became an open exchange of blows, with the Oldenburgs acting quite more obligingly. But they lacked the last consequence in the end, which the Halle team then proved. The Red and Whites kept a cool head and turned onto the winning road with a double strike.

At first the guests were not able to clear the ball after a corner kick, Fünger (68th) was there in the second attempt from close range and headed the 1-0. Three minutes later, the Leuna-Chemie-Stadion was finally upside down, because after Damer’s preliminary work, Zimmerschied ran into position and nodded unerringly into the left corner. Coach André Meyer’s protégés couldn’t take their lead away and celebrated the first three points of the new season.
