SpVgg Bayreuth won the second game in a row against FSV Zwickau. The 5:3 means important points in the relegation battle against a direct competitor.
The dream of staying up for SpVgg Bayreuth is alive. The Upper Franconians won the wild target shooting against FSV Zwickau and scored important points against a direct competitor. Despite a temporary 4-1 lead, Bayreuth still had to tremble shortly before the end. A double strike from Dominic Baumann (83rd minute) and Jan-Marc Schneider (85th) brought the guests back just before the final whistle, before Felix Weber made it 5-3 shortly afterwards (87th).
Bayreuth escapes the relegation zone
There was a wild flurry of snow in Bayreuth. The square in the Hans-Walter-Wild-Stadion turned white during the game, which is why the snow equipment was unpacked: Red ball, red lines – only the red zone moves a good bit further after the 90 minutes for Bayreuth.
The game association is now four points behind Hallesche FC and thus in 17th place. Since the winter break, Thomas Kleine’s team has changed. In the first half of the season, Upper Franconia hardly managed to score a goal successfully. They scored 14 of their 25 goals in the new year.
Wild finish in Bayreuth
Against Zwickau alone they managed five. Markus Ziereis opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. The lead was destroyed by Zwickau’s Bauman just a minute later (34′). That matched the wild exchange of blows that the two teams fought on the field. The second half started with a draw.
There, goals from Eroll Zejnullahu (58′), Christoph Fenninger (70′) and Luke Hemmerich (80′) made it 4-1, which only seemed like the preliminary decision for three minutes. Zwickau’s double strike followed and a yellow-red card for Zwickau’s Nico Carrera (86th), who wanted to prevent a counterattack. Just a minute later, Weber’s cracking volley ended a spectacular game.
