3rd League | Anger about Sandro Wagner’s successor: DFB threatens sanctions

The actual U19 coach Marc Unterberger is to succeed successful coach Sandro Wagner at third division promoted SpVgg Unterhaching. But Unterberger does not have a license, and the club may even face a severe penalty.

It has been known since spring that Marc Unterberger is to act as the new head coach at SpVgg Unterhaching. Former Bundesliga professional Sandro Wagner, who played for Werder Bremen, Hertha BSC, 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Bayern, among others, is leaving the promoted team at his own request.

The 35-year-old is taking a year off, although he has reportedly received numerous offers from home and abroad.

Despite the early clarification of the successor, the game association is now facing a major problem. Unterberger does not have the UEFA Pro license required for the 3rd division and is therefore not officially allowed to look after the team as head coach. While it was assumed until recently that Unterhaching would receive a special permit, according to “Sport1” this has never been granted.

Will third division club Unterhaching be penalized by the DFB?

According to the TV broadcaster, it could even happen that the club will not be issued with it in the future. As the DFB announced, Unterhaching “following the applicable rules and regulations has received the requirement to report a trainer with a pro license”.

The deadline for reporting expires on June 30th, it also says: “If no head coach with the required pro license has been registered by then, the club would first be asked to comment before the DFB could decide on possible sanctions for violating the Edition and the statute of the 3rd league would decide.”

In concrete terms, a fine could be paid or points could even be withdrawn if Unterhaching does not meet the requirements on time.
