3rd league – After the vaccination scandal: Dynamo gives the trainer a new chance at the beginning

Dresden (dpa) – The restart after the scandal because of the use of a fake vaccination card takes place for Markus in Dresden.

The 47-year-old was introduced as the new coach at Dynamo Dresden, which was relegated to the second division. The date is no coincidence, after all, his ban from the German Football Association was suspended on probation on this Friday.

“Before this decision, we naturally gave it a lot of thought, which went beyond the purely sporting aspect,” said Dynamo sports director Ralf Becker. What was decisive for him in the “very good talks” was “that he openly and honestly admitted his misconduct from the past and sincerely regretted it”. Becker emphasized: “Everyone makes mistakes, and Markus has taken responsibility for his and received the just punishment.”

Scandal about fake vaccination cards

The new Dynamo hopeful resigned as coach of the then second division club Werder Bremen in November after the public prosecutor’s office had initiated investigations against him and his assistant coach Florian Junge because of the use of fake vaccination cards. The Bremen district court later sentenced him to a fine totaling 36,000 euros, the DFB sports court banned him as a coach for a year and suspended this sentence on probation.

Becker was once a companion from the start. Together, the two managed to climb up to the third division with Holstein Kiel in the 2016/2017 season. After that, the North Germans came up trumps and only missed promotion to the Bundesliga in the relegation against VfL Wolfsburg. Now the leap into the next higher league should succeed with the people from the Elbe. “I am very grateful to those responsible at Dynamo Dresden for this opportunity. It is an exciting and challenging task,” said Beginning, who is bringing his long-time assistant coach Junge to Elbflorenz.
