Unbelievable, dramatic, crazy: VfL Osnabrück managed to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with a 2-1 (0-0) win against Borussia Dortmund II on Saturday. Both goals came in added time.

Even VfL Osnabrück has never experienced such a football afternoon in its eventful history. In the fourth minute of injury time he was behind against BVB and had to score two more goals to make promotion.

Then Ba-Muaka Simakala (90′ + 4) hit with a long-range shot and gave hope again, which turned into ecstasy a little later: Jannes Wulff (90′ + 6) pushed the ball over the line – 2:1 and the direct one rise. “I can’t even put it into words. I’ll never forget that,” said the overwhelmed winner.

“The football god was on our side today,” said captain Timo Beermann: “Incredible!” Veteran Robert Tesche added: “Really awesome. You can’t describe it.” Marc Heider, who has already experienced some ups and downs at VfL, emphasized: “It was a typical bridge moment, unforgettable.”

Coach Schweinsteiger: “Knew that the bridge can do wonders”

Coach Tobias Schweinsteiger, who took over the team in the first half of the season near the relegation zone, was almost detached despite the highly emotional success: “The game was like the whole season – great feeling. We knew that the bridge can always work wonders. It’s amazing how the team has grown together.”

“Schalke feeling” at Wehen Wiesbaden

While all the dams broke at the Bremer Bridge, the party at SV Wehen Wiesbaden ended abruptly. The Hessians had won 1-0 against Halle, thought they had been promoted and were already celebrating with their fans on the pitch. But as with Schalke 04 and their “four-minute championship” in 2001, it was said: happy too soon. After all, Wiesbaden reached the relegation against the table 16. the second division.

After the final whistle, the nail-biter that VfL had delivered for a long time at Bremer Brücke was forgotten. The nervousness was noticeable in Lower Saxony. They developed no flow of play and had hardly any successful offensive actions. BVB II was different: the youngsters from Dortmund combined impressively and deserved the lead even before the change of sides.

But either Borussia failed because of VfL keeper Philipp Kühn or – in the case of Justin Njinmah – because of the crossbar (40th). Nevertheless, the situation for Osnabrück had deteriorated at the break, as Wiesbaden and Saarbrücken were in the lead.

And it got even worse at the beginning of the second half: The VfL defense let themselves be outplayed by a ball that was actually easy to defend, Njinmah took the chance and scored the 1-0 (48th).

Wulff with the gate to ascent

Osnabrück became even more agitated and hardly had a chance. And yet there was still a turning point: Simakala simply shot from 20 meters, the ball was in there and the hope for a football miracle was back.

The moment followed that will go down in Osnabrück football history. Wulff got the ball in the penalty area, kept his nerve and scored the goal for promotion.
