The ceremony is also important for the municipality of Langemark-Poelkapelle. “This is a respectful way to deal with people who died here,” says Mayor Lieven Vanbelleghem. “They came to fight from their conviction, and they too deserve a final resting place. It shows that we still think about some war today.”
