35 tons of food less wasted: Ostend sets a good example

The central kitchen of the City of Ostend managed to waste 35 tons less food in one year. The city could count on the know-how of the non-profit organization Foodwin and money from the province. Every weekday 1,400 meals are prepared in the kitchen for the hospital, various residential care centers, nurseries, nine meeting centers and also for people at home.

They now mainly make less soup, give smaller portions and adjust the quantities per department. This involves a saving of 50,000 euros and they also emit 112 tons less co2 into the air.
