Eisbären Berlin lost the top game of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) against EHC Red Bull Munich.

On Wednesday evening, the German champions lost 3: 4 (0: 2, 1: 1, 2: 1) to the leaders. Zach Boychuk, Matt White and Jonas Müller scored for the capital city, who remained without points despite an appealing performance over long stretches.

The 3,790 spectators in the Olympic ice stadium saw a fast-paced, intense game from the start, in which the home side consistently converted their first good chances: Andreas Eder provided the lead after a counterattack, Jonathon Blum increased a little later.

After the first break, the polar bears increased the pressure and were able to shorten. Boychuk took advantage of a positional error by Munich goalie Mathias Niederberger, who otherwise put up a strong performance against his former club.

The Berliners now pushed for an equaliser, but the hosts remained efficient. Daryl Boyle restored the old distance with a powerful long-range shot. In the final third, Justin Schütz extended Munich’s lead, but White and Müller brought the people from the capital back closer.

Despite their best efforts, the Berliners were unable to equalize.
