After only six points from the first six games, SSV Ulm 1846 was a table 15. The 3rd league separated from coach Robert Lechleiter. The 45-year-old had taken over the office at the Spatzen in March, but was no longer able to prevent the descent from the 2nd Bundesliga. In May, Lechleiter’s contract was still extended until 2027, below him the team won an average of 1.37 points in 19 games. In addition to Lechleivers, his assistants Matthias Lust and Christoph Kappel also have to go.

“Unfortunately we were forced to do this at short notice. This decision was very difficult for us because we appreciate Robert extremely. He took over the team in a very difficult situation in spring, aroused a new spirit and still led close to relegation. We thank him, Matthias and Christoph for their commitment,” said Managing Director Markus Thiele. Board member Thomas Oelmayer added: “After the big upheaval in summer, the development unfortunately went in the wrong direction. And the conversations after the game in Saarbrücken left us no choice but to act immediately.”

Lechleiter, who will be replaced by U19 coach Moritz Glasbrenner for the time being: “I would like to thank you for the trust that the club has shown to me. Unfortunately, the start was not as well as we have imagined. I am convinced that the team will play a good season. I wish all employees and fans of the SSV good luck for the future.”

Lechleiter successor: SSV Ulm is already talking about discussions

In the meantime, the SSV Ulm is already looking for a successor. “The conversations with the successor candidates are already underway. We have a clear profile and a clear idea for this and will take the time to choose the ideal head coach. Until then, Moritz has our full trust,” said board member Alexander Schöllhorn.
