2nd league: St. Pauli misses the leap at the top – draw in Hanover & Dresden

Only two goals on Saturday

FC St. Pauli missed the leap to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hamburgers did not get more than 1: 1 (0: 1) at SV Sandhausen on Saturday. After Guido Burgstaller’s goal (39th minute), which converted a penalty kick, Janik Bachmann equalized for Sandhausen at the end of regular time.

With 53 points, St. Pauli is in second place, at least temporarily. But the competitors can do better on Sunday. Sandhausen’s lead over the relegation place, where SG Dynamo Dresden is currently located, is another six points. Both teams played at eye level for long stretches. Cebio Soukou created the first dangerous situation, but failed to get through to Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj (33′). On the other side, Dario Dumic committed a foul on Burgstaller. The Austrian converted the penalty safely.

Three minutes after the break, Marcel Hartel missed the second goal for the guests, who were the better team in terms of play. The SVS, in which Captain Dennis Diekmeier was injured, had a hard time. But he came to the celebrated equalizer with Bachmann’s header.

Despite being outnumbered: Hannover 96 saves a point against Fortuna Düsseldorf

Hannover 96 has achieved a respectable success in the relegation battle. Despite being outnumbered for 75 minutes, the table 14 played. 0-0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday and thus retained a comfortable seven-point lead over the relegation place. In front of 17,200 spectators, the Swede Niklas Hult saw the red card in the 16th minute because of an emergency brake. The defender looked into the low sun during a long pass from Düsseldorf and was then only able to stop his opponent with a foul.

The committed 96ers had already had two good chances through Sebastian Kerk (8th) and Dominik Kaiser (10th). Even with ten men, they didn’t allow the guests a clear chance. Although the Düsseldorfers remained undefeated in the ninth game under their coach Daniel Thioune, this time they played without ideas and assertiveness.

Dynamo Dresden also remains without a win against Holstein Kiel

The SG Dynamo Dresden is still waiting for the first win this year. The chances of the Saxons to stay directly in the 2nd Bundesliga continue to dwindle. On Saturday, in front of 21,544 spectators in their home Rudolf Harbig Stadium, the Dresden team couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw against Holstein Kiel.

After all, the Dynamo professionals were able to avert the eighth defeat in the eighth second division duel with the “storks”. With 29 points, the Dresdeners are still six points behind SV Sandhausen in 15th place on the relegation place after 30 games.
