Second division team Dynamo Dresden and sports director Thomas Brendel are going their separate ways. The 49-year-old’s contract, which expires on June 30, 2026, will not be extended, so he will be released from his duties with immediate effect, the Saxons announced on Sunday. Dynamo suffered its third defeat in a row against Nuremberg on Friday, but overall the team has only managed one win this season.

Brendel took up his position at the sports association in the summer of 2024 and was jointly responsible for the 2024/25 season, in which Dynamo was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga as second place in the 3rd league with 70 points. The team is currently in 17th place in the 2nd league. An interim solution for the position has been secured and we are therefore still fully able to act, it is said. Separate information will be provided about the interim appointment in the coming days. Succession has the highest priority.

Jens Heinig, Chairman of the SGD Supervisory Board, explained: “In the past few weeks, we as a committee have increasingly had to notice that there have been major inconsistencies and differences in the management of the club, which have become increasingly severe. Due to this and in view of the sporting situation, we lack confidence that we can achieve the goals we have set with Thomas Brendel as Managing Director of Sport. With the winter transfer period to be planned and the preparation of the new season, the decision was for us at this point in time “We would like to thank Thomas for his commitment to our sports community, especially for his contribution to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and wish him all the best for the future. Those responsible will conscientiously take on the tasks ahead in order to achieve our common goal of staying in the league.”

Stephan Zimmermann, Managing Director of Finance, added: “At managing director level, I would also like to thank Thomas Brendel for his commitment and wish him all the best for the future. For us as a club, it is now important for us as a club to work even closer together in order to master the upcoming tasks until the position is finally filled. Good decisions must be made as a group in order to achieve our common goal. The management will work together with the squad planner and the coaching team and try to make the necessary adjustments. The The transfer period in the winter is therefore secured accordingly. I am confident that we can achieve this as a community.”
