2nd Bundesliga: FCK gets a last-minute point at VfL Osnabrück

Draw in Elversberg

A week after the 2-1 win against Hamburger SV, VfL Osnabrück narrowly missed the next surprise in the 2nd Bundesliga. After a long lead against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday, the promoted team ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 (2-1) draw and thus remains bottom of the table. 1. FC Nürnberg has now ended its negative streak and made it to eighth place. The Franconians defeated 1. FC Magdeburg 1-0 (0-0). Newcomer SV 07 Elversberg remained undefeated in the fourth game after three successes in a row, but had to be content with sharing points in the 1:1 (1:1) draw against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

Two penalties missed: FCK still gets a point at VfL Osnabrück

1. FC Kaiserslautern missed out on the promotion relegation place, but still managed to score a point at VfL Osnabrück with a late goal in stoppage time despite missing two penalties. The Palatinate team fought to a 2:2 (1:2) draw against the promoted team. In front of 15,741 fans in the sold-out stadium at the Bremer Brücke, Erik Engelhardt (17th minute) and Mickaël Cuisance (37th, penalty kick) gave the hosts the lead. Julian Niehues (45+2) and Boris Tomiak (90+8) scored for the guests.

In a thrilling second division game, the guests initially had a great chance to take the lead. But Kevin Kraus failed with a penalty kick past the Osnabrück goalkeeper Lennart Grill, who also parried the follow-up shot (15th). Instead, VfL took the lead, somewhat surprisingly. After a fine pass from Jannes Wulff, Engelhardt was there. The purple-whites now became more confident and increased their lead to 2-0 thanks to a penalty kick converted by Cuisance.

Kaiserslautern looked shocked for a moment, but then scored through Niehues in stoppage time in the first half. After the break, the Palatinate team pushed for an equalizer, but missed numerous good chances. It was only in the eighth minute of stoppage time that the score was 2-2 because Oumar Diakhité, who was badly injured but continued to play, deflected a ball from Tomiak unstoppable for the outstanding Grill. The VfL goalkeeper had previously saved a penalty from Terrence Boyd (90+5).

Joker Lohkemper lets 1. FC Nürnberg celebrate against 1. FC Magdeburg

A supposed counter-attack goal by Benjamin Goller (66th) did not count after the video referee was called in because of a previous handball. Thanks to their first win since the end of August, Nuremberg drew level with Magdeburg on points (12).
