2nd Bundesliga: Change of coach at Hansa Rostock: Glöckner follows Hartel

Status: 07.11.2022 5:40 p.m

Second division soccer team FC Hansa Rostock quickly found what they were looking for when they were looking for a successor for the dismissed head coach Jens Härtel. Patrick Glöckner inherits the 53-year-old from the Mecklenburg coaching chair.

The 45-year-old Glöckner was already in charge of training for the Mecklenburgers on Monday afternoon, who will host 1. FC Nürnberg on Wednesday (from 6.30 p.m. in the NDR Livecenter). “I had a very positive impression in the first training session, the boys are inquisitive,” said Glöckner at his introduction. “I’m happy about the trust and want to pick up the team. We want to act as a collective and as a unit.”

The last away game before the winter break in Braunschweig is on Saturday evening. “We have the opportunity for Patrick to get to know the team before the break so that we can take some impressions into the planning,” said manager Martin Pieckenhagen at the time the new coach was hired.

Patrick Glöckner’s previous positions as head coach included FC Viktoria Köln, which was still playing in the regional league at the time. In the third division, the native of Bonn coached Chemnitzer FC and most recently SV Waldhof Mannheim, where he was on the sidelines until the summer of 2022. In 88 games with the Mannheimers he scored an average of 1.68 points per game and in the end just missed out on promotion (5th place).

Glöckner relies on consistency and more offensive

“In terms of performance, there was a lack of consistency – I want to create that,” said Glöckner about his goals for the Mecklenburg team. “It’s about playing football in which we feel comfortable. In the short term I want to build a DNA, everyone has to know what they have to do at all times.” During the long winter break, he would like to deepen his idea of football with the team.

“Football should be more attacking and fresher. But the idea can always veer left and right, you have to see which football suits the team.”

The Rostock coaching team has also been expanded to include 33-year-old Nicolas Masetzky, with whom Glöckner had already worked in Mannheim. He also receives a contract until the end of the season, which will be extended if he stays in the league.

Haertel dismissal “professional” expired

Haertel was released on Sunday two days after the 0-1 defeat against SV Sandhausen. One has reached a point “when it is time for changes and new impulses,” said Pieckenhagen. “If you look at the trend in the last ten games, Jens was not satisfied with the development either. We made the decision with conviction that it was the right one. The separation was very professional and fair,” added the manager. Less than two weeks ago, Pieckenhagen was clearly behind Haertel – Hansa then won 3-0 in Regensburg.
