280 kilometers of traffic jam at peak time for Whitsun weekend: “In line with expectations” | Interior

At the peak moment, there were about 280 kilometers of traffic jams on the Flemish highways this afternoon. The center of gravity was around Antwerp. According to the Flemish Traffic Center, there is no exceptionally busy traffic and the traffic was comparable to that on the day before Ascension Day.

“We have already passed the peak of 280 kilometers of traffic jams,” says Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Center around 6 p.m. “The morning rush hour was very quiet, with about 50 kilometers of traffic jams. Traffic increased between 10 and 11 a.m., with a peak of 175 miles. Right now around 6:30pm; ed.) there is still about 170 kilometers of traffic jams”.

According to Bruyninckx it has not been exceptionally busy. “The figures are in line with expectations,” he says. “Long weekend, good weather predicted… Then the normal Friday course is always greased. But if we compare it to the long weekend of Ascension, today was not significantly busier.”

No file record

The center of gravity of the traffic jam was around Antwerp. “That is always a very busy connection, on days before a long weekend the traffic jams there are even higher than on other days.”

There is no file record on Friday. Also the day before Ascension Day and on January 20, when it started to snow heavily in the afternoon and the evening rush hour was therefore busier than usual, there were 280 kilometers of traffic jams on Flemish highways.
