25th defeat in a row – Detroit close to a negative record

As of: December 22, 2023 8:49 a.m

The Detroit Pistons keep losing and are getting closer and closer to the shameful NBA negative record.

The Pistons lost to the Utah Jazz 111:119 on Friday night (December 22, 2023) – it was the Pistons’ 25th defeat in a row. This means that all that is missing is one defeat to equal the longest NBA losing streak in a season. The Cleveland Cavaliers (2010/11) and the Philadelphia 76ers (2013/14) lost 26 games in a row. The mark could set Detroit with another loss on Christmas Eve at the Brooklyn Nets.

“Nobody wants to write this story”said dejected Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham, who scored 28 points. After all, there are still a few games left to go on the longest losing streak ever. Philadelphia once suffered a total of 28 bankruptcies in a row at the end of the 2014/15 season and the beginning of the 2015/16 season.

Western Conference: Clippers’ winning streak broken

Meanwhile, the winning streak of the Los Angeles Clippers around world champion Daniel Theis was broken. After nine games without defeat, the team conceded a clear 115:134 against the Oklahoma City Thunder without the ailing star Kawhi Leonhard. OKC professional Chet Holmgren made an exclamation point when he passed the ball to himself using the backboard and completed the scene with a smashing dunk. Theis hit both throw attempts, but like his colleagues had a weaker game overall and only recorded four points, one rebound and one block. The Clippers are fifth in the West, where Oklahoma solidified second place.

At the end of the regular season, the top six teams reach the NBA playoffs. Four more teams each Conference identify two other participants. The 16 teams then determine the NBA champion in the playoffs.

Eastern Conference: Wagner brothers lose, Milwaukee stays on top

Moritz Wagner and Franz Wagner, on the other hand, showed a strong performance, but still lost to the Milwaukee Bucks with the Orlando Magic. At 114:118, the Magic suffered primarily from their poor production from beyond the three-point line. Only 8 of the 33 attempts went in. “We played the right way, but we have to hit the shots and that just wasn’t enough today”said Franz Wagner after his 20 points. Moritz Wagner came off the bench to 21 points in 27 minutes.

Orlando is fifth in the East, the Bucks remain second to the Boston Celtics at the top of the table.
