The police have arrested a 20-year-old man from Groningen for the mistreatment of 82-year-old Wim Brul in Heesch. Wim was attacked by the man in the broadlight in August in the tree park and was seriously injured.
Wim Brul stepped on the bike three weeks ago for his usual round. In the tree park he had to brake for one of the two dogs of the suspect, who walked loose and unexpectedly crossed. He bumped into the dog.
The owner of the dog ran to Wim and before he knew it he was beaten off his bike. He left Wim seriously injured. In addition to many bruises, Wim broke his ribs and ran a fracture in his eye socket and wrist. “He didn’t get air and thought he was dying,” says his son Werner. “He wanted to go to the police station and first tried to make his bike. Then he only went looking for help.”
At the main entrance of the tree park, Wim called 112. There he was taken care of by bystanders. “With so many broken ribs, it is common for your lung to recover,” says Werner. “It’s a miracle that this did not happen.” According to his son, Wim is very fit and cycles every day. “That probably ensured that it is going reasonably well now.”
The police report on Saturday on Saturday that after an investigation, a 20-year-old man from Groningen was arrested and announced.
