A serious accident happened on the A2 near Maarheeze on Tuesday evening in which a truck and several other vehicles are involved. The truck shot through the central reservation due to unknown cause.

The vehicle has hit many cars in the opposite direction. For the first aid, a trauma helicopter was also flown in, which landed in the middle of the closed highway.

According to the Brabant-Zuidoost safety region, two injured people were taken to the hospital. The fire brigade had to free one of them from a passenger car. Whether the other wounded is the truck driver, or a motorist is also unknown. Also, the security region cannot yet say how the victims are like and whether there are more victims.

Repair all night
According to a spokesperson for the Security Region, it is a ‘fairly large havoc’ on the road where the accident occurred. Police and Rijkswaterstaat are still investigating and carrying out storage work for the time being. The highway is closed in the direction of Maastricht between Valkenswaard and Maarheeze. In that direction of travel, the oncoming traffic ran the truck. The other way, so on the stretch of highway where the truck initially drove, the left lane is closed.

Rijkswaterstaat says that they are still working on the A2 all night. “We have to perform emergency repairs at several locations,” she reported on X. The traffic towards Maastricht is diverted via the A67 and A73, and vice versa towards Eindhoven.
