He was the next star of Mexican football, was courted by numerous clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, PSV Eindhoven or Betis Sevilla and received a market value of 10 million euros at the age of 20: José Juan Macías was on everyone’s lips five years ago, today he is worried about his career. A little chance still seems to be in Germany.
Since the striker ventured his first attempt in Europe at FC Getafe in the summer of 2021, the career curve has been steeping down. Macías could not prevail at the Laliga Club, the loan was ended prematurely after half a year. Back at Deportivo Guadalajara, the bad luck hit him twice. After a cruciate ligament rupture in the summer of 2022, he got again shortly after his comeback on the training ground. Macías had to pause a full 567 days.
However, it was still not going well, also a restart at Santos Laguna, which paid just under EUR 2.3 million in the past summer, failed. Since his return to the square in December 2023, Macías had only completed 414 minutes in 13 games. The body no longer wants to participate properly, Macías always has to suspend with injuries. For this reason, his contract was resolved by Santos Laguna a week ago.
Since then, the rumor stubbornly has been stubborn that Macías could end his career at the age of just 25. Instead, he wanted to get involved in the family business and, like ex-real star Gareth Bale, switch the sport to Golf. On the other hand, there are media reports that Macías has not yet decided. The attacker still hopes to continue his professional career – and here Germany comes into play.
Does it draw ex-Mexico talent Macías in 2nd Bundesliga?
How “ESPN“Macías has received an offer from the 2nd Bundesliga in Mexico. The club is not named in particular. Macías has been standing at the home of Guadalajara for a few days, where he asked the Chivas for the opportunity to use the facilities of his youth club to get back to rhythm and to keep fit.
The next few days and weeks will probably show whether it is enough for a new attempt in football. In the summer of 2020, Macías said at least in the TM interview: “Of course it would be an option to go to Germany.”
